I am seeking an experienced home for a 4-year-old, 60-lb Blue Heeler mix whom I rescued from a severe neglect situation. He is neutered, fully vaccinated, and recently had a full veterinary dental cleaning and a fresh sanitary shave. THE GOOD: He is incredibly smart, knows basic commands, walks fairly well on a leash/harness (unless startled or sees other dogs), and is fully dog and cat-friendly (he currently lives with a cat and a service dog). He is generally good with children, though he shows typical herding excitement (heel-nipping) that an experienced handler should be able to easily read and redirect. THE CHALLENGES (Severe Trauma-Based Anxiety): Submissive Urination: He heavily fear-pees (often while walking) when men enter the room, even with no eye contact. He will also pee as sudden loud noises. Isolation Distress: He will poop inside if he feels left alone on a different floor of the house, despite having outdoor access. Agoraphobia: He panics, freezes, and refuses to walk out the front door (weve been working on this and got him to the end of the walkway once) or near vehicles due to extreme fear. Food Stealing: He will counter-surf and steal food instantly if your back is turned momentarily even if in the same room, especially from kids. Stranger Reactivity: He barks and growls deeply at visitors, which can be very intimidating (he has never bit or even tried to bite anyone). REASON FOR SURRENDER: I have raised herding breeds my whole life, but his trauma requires a very quiet, low-traffic environment to decompress. Our household is currently too busy and active with multiple children, a cat, and a service dog. The high-energy environment is keeping his anxiety baseline too high, and we do not have the quiet, isolated space he needs to overcome his fear-urination and environmental panic. He is a sweet, brilliant dog who desperately wants to please and be loved on, but he will only thrive in a calm, adult-only or single-handler home with a secure yard. Medical records are available immediately.
