Please Share �'�| Chicago, IL - Adopt Bella the Sweetest Chinchilla Bella is an adorable, playful, gentle, friendly and active, 18-month-old, female Chinchilla looking for a loving guardian. Chinchillas have a diet of mostly Timothy hay, pellets, fresh water and an occasional foraging treat. They take a dust bath twice a week, and their somersaults are utterly adorable to watch. Bella is beautifully socialized and runs on her wheel for what seems like miles! Chinchillas, when properly cared for, can be long-term companions living on average between 15 to 22 years. Native to the Andes mountains of northern Chile, they are agile and able to jump around mountain peaks their dense fur protects them from the cold. That is why they need a large multi-level cage to jump from ledge to ledge. I've personally only seen wild Chinchillas at Machu Picchu in Peru and it was such a thrill. Chinchillas don't have sweat glands and are densely surrounded with fur, so they need to stay cool year-round at temperatures 75�F and below. Over-heating can be deadly! An AC unit is required for a chinchilla in the summer in Chicagoland. An endangered species in the wild, Chinchillas were hunted for their fur. They were brought to America to make fur coats; the breeders were so enamored with how sweet, soft and adorable they were, that they began keeping them as pets. Chinchillas enjoy their toys; wood is the best - chewing helps with stimulation and to keep teeth trimmed. They also enjoy pumice stone and loofah. The toys can be hanging or tossed around the cage. She is absolutely the sweetest Chinchilla I have ever met. She is easy to hold, but requires care, daily attention, and time to run around safely supervised indoors.
