About Pete

Adoption Fee: $50
Pit Bull / Great Pyrenees
Age: Adult
Sex: Male

Do you need someone who will love you and not want to leave your side and protect you? Pete is that dog! I adopted Pete from an animal shelter in January. He had been there many months but they loved him and did not want to euthanize him. No one would adopt him - probably because you could see he has pit bull in him and he is large and about 6 years old. He had buckshot in multiple places, had never been neutered and had to have three canines pulled because they were in such poor shape. The last canine is broken off but doesn't bother him. Despite this obvious mistreatment, he has been a wonderful companion for me. He always listens to me, is very obedient and has no bad habits - he doesn't tear up anything, is trustworthy around food and completely housebroken. He just wants you to pet him and love him. He doesn't mind having his nails trimmed and loves to be brushed. His coat is the easiest ever to manage. The only reason I need to find him a new home is because he is too protective of me. I have several grandkids and often stay with my parents who are 100 and 101. I'm concerned he may hurt one of the grandkids when they come on too strong. Whenever he nips someone or takes their shirt in his mouth, it's always because he thinks I need protection. He is not aggressive toward other dogs, but prefers his space and needs the other dog to respect that. My outdoor cat would lie down in his sight, but unless he ran off, the dog left him completely alone. He wouldn't automatically chase after him whenever he saw him. I love him and I cry when I think about rehoming him because we need each other, but I can't take a chance he will hurt one of the grandkids. Plus, I will be having back surgery in a few weeks and I'm concerned he may be so excited to see me that he will jump up and do real damage. He hasn't jumped on anyone else. It's just because he is so very happy to see me when I've been gone that sometimes he can't contain himself. If I have the electric collar control, a simple tone will settle him down immediately. He must have been trained with an electric collar because he will respond immediately to a tone - even if he has a squirrel treed! :-) He is accustomed to invisible fencing and never tests it. I will only let him go to someone who will love him and appreciate him and give him the wonderful life he deserves. I'd love to talk to you about him and see if you might be just the person who will love him unconditionally in the same way he will love you! I'm praying for you both!
