SPECIAL NEEDS DOG - Please read entire bio before applying. CLOVER is a 22 month old, 15 pound Chihuahua mix who was found roaming as a stray in the country with several other dogs. They were lucky that someone picked them up and asked if we could take them. If you're looking for a happy, goofy, affectionate little sidekick, CLOVER checks every box. He has never met a stranger and absolutely loves people. He bonds quickly with his family and suffers from what his foster mom lovingly calls 'super glueitis.' If you're sitting down, expect him to be right beside you or on you. CLOVER loves to run and play, chase leaves blowing across the yard, splash in the pool, greet his family excitedly at the door, and curl up on the couch for movie night. He walks beautifully on a leash, but needs a securely fenced yard where he can safely run and play. He eats like a champ, lives for snack time, and believes every stuffed toy should be de-stuffed as quickly as possible. His foster home often looks like it was hit by a snowstorm of stuffing! CLOVER gets along well with other dogs and would enjoy having a playful canine companion. He would probably chase a cat until the cat reminded him who's really in charge. We have not had him around children but think he would be fine with older kids. At night, he sleeps in the big bed with his foster family because being close to his people is his favorite place to be. Now for the part you need to know. After struggling with what initially appeared to be potty training issues, X-rays revealed the heartbreaking reason. At some point in his young life, Clover had been shot in the spine. The injury left him with permanent nerve damage that affects his bladder and bowel control. Because of this, CLOVER needs daily bladder expression, belly bands while indoors, diapers when necessary, medications, added fiber, routine veterinary care, and an adopter who understands that accidents are simply part of life with him. Because of his medical needs, he is not a candidate for boarding or daycare facilities, so his family should have a plan for his care when traveling. His future family should be prepared for the time and financial commitment that comes with caring for a special needs dog throughout his life. We want to be clear that none of this slows CLOVER down. He doesn't know he's different. He wakes up every day ready to play, love his people, and enjoy life to the fullest. He isn't looking for someone to feel sorry for him. He's looking for someone willing to see past his disability and recognize the incredible little dog underneath. For the right family, the extra care will be repaid every single day with unconditional love, endless snuggles, and a heart that's far bigger than his small size. CLOVER is neutered, up to date on shots, heartworm negative, has had a ProHeart 12 heartworm prevention shot, and is microchipped with a lifetime registration. *To meet or adopt one of our dogs, you must first submit an adoption application for review.
