About Nina

Meet Nina Nina has a story to tell, and thankfully she is alive so that we can tell it. This little angel was surrendered on one of the hottest days of the year. She was transported to us in a trap, tied to the back of a truck, and very nearly died of heat exhaustion, exposure, and sheer terror. The shock of it was overwhelming, but thanks to the quick thinking of our staff and our vet, Nina's young life was saved. Nina is just a year old. She is a petite tortie kitten with beseeching green eyes. Even after the trauma she endured, she is one of the sweetest, most loving little kitties. She will run over for pets and scratches. She loves fanny bumping to get your attention. Nina is a Velcro kitty; where you are, she is. She is making friends in the cat room, and we think with slow introductions she'll be fine with other kitties. She's trying to find her way and is learning kitty social cues. She has a happy, curious demeanor. We don't yet know how she does with dogs, but we can test her if needed. Nina has been through so much in her short life. But this little kitty showed a will and a fight to live, and thanks to the fast-acting and presence-of-mind of our staff, and the wonderful care of our vet, Nina has a long and healthy life ahead of her. All adopters must complete an approval process which involves a reference check with current/recent vet and a brief home visit if located in the immediate area. We do permit out-of-state adoptions. Adopters MUST come to the shelter to transport their new family member home. We do not ship, nor do we transport them to their new homes. Charles Smithgall Humane Society (CSHS) is a No kill shelter. Animals in our care remain safe with us until adopted. Resident animals are either owner relinquished rescued from area Animal Controls or high kill shelters. The facility usually operates at capacity with a list of animals waiting for space to open.
