Herschel is a 2-year-old neutered pit mix looking for a patient, experienced home. He is house-trained, affectionate, and forms strong bonds with his people. Around the house he enjoys relaxing nearby, chewing on toys, and spending time with his owner. Herschel has no history of biting people or other dogs. He has played well with many dogs off leash and enjoys canine companionship once properly introduced. However, he struggles with anxiety, especially in busy urban environments. He can be fearful of loud noises, unexpected people, and some on-leash dog encounters, where he may bark or lunge. He would do best with someone who understands anxious dogs and is willing to continue working with him. His ideal home would be a quieter environment with a fenced yard or easy access to calm walking areas. He is not a good fit for someone looking for an easygoing dog to take everywhere, but he has many wonderful qualities for the right person who can give him structure, patience, and understanding. I'm making this decision because I believe Herschel would have a better quality of life in a home that better matches his needs than I can provide in my downtown apartment.
