About 'PETE'

CODE RED- on EUTH LIST and 7/30 Deadline at 5 pm, must exit asap HELP!!! X URGENT- Riverside County Shelter, San Jacinto location, So Cal - ID #A1921843 'PETE'- A SWEET GOLDEN RETRIEVER/ SHEPHERD MIX. AT GREAT RISK IN HIGH KILL SHELTER since 6/11 AVAILABLE TO ADOPT, BUT SHELTER IS OVERFULL and EUTHANIZING ADOPTABLE DOGS. WE ARE THEREFORE ALSO DESPERATELY LOOKING FOR A FOSTER RESCUE TO SAVE HIS LIFE BEFORE HIS TIME IS UP. RESCUES NEED FOSTERS TO HELP! Dear Pete was found as a stray, and no one ever reclaimed this handsome hunk. Pete is said to be 5 years young and weighs 73 lbs and is listed as a golden retriever and german shepherd. However, was originally mislabeled as a chow mix due to his fluff, even though his tongue is pink, causing this dear boy to be overlooked. We are courtesy posting him so he does not continue to be overlooked. We have nice video showing him loving to be pet. Shelter notes state, '06/15/2026 STAFF SHELTER: 06/15/26 11:31 Upon approach, dog was towards front of kennel soliciting attention from handler. No kennel mate at time of observation. 06/17/2026 PLAYGROUP SHELTER: 06/17/26 08:24 Dog participated in playgroup today. Dog appeared tense during greetings, providing appropriate warnings as needed. Dog primarily kept to himself. Dog did not engage in play' He has no negative notes at this time. ' He was more recently tested in Kennel with another dog but was protective of his food so he's been kenneled alone. Poor guy may have been starving on the street before and not used to other dogs, but a slow intro and keeping food areas would be recommended, if you do have another dog. Pete has been at this shelter since 6/11 and is now very urgent in this very full shelter with a 7/30 final deadline.
