NR JACKSONVILLE FLORIDA (towards GEORGIA BORDER)- RARE BLUE MERLE CHOW 'FORREST' IN NEED OF A CHOW SAVVY, FOREVER HOME WITH NO OTHER PETS, OWNER DIED AND EXTENDED FAMILY CANNOT KEEP MUCH LONGER (please no negative comments, owner is at least asking for help to rehome), local shelter has already said they would euthanize him! Please help us find a chow savvy, patient and forever home for this smaller chow named Forrest. His owner unfortunately died and he and 2 other female chow from the home were taken in by a caring family member who is unable to care for them much longer due to her own health and financial situation. Of the three, Forrest unfortunately needs to be an only pet, and we will be posting them all separately. Once Forrest trusts, he is described as loyal and deeply bonded. Like many chows, though, he is afraid of strangers, but described as 'very loving to me and my immediate family.' By his caretaker and current owner (sister of original owner). She also told us a lot of great things and helpful information as follows: Forrest is a 5-year-old Chow Chow with a loyal heart, a sensitive nature, and a playful side that comes out once he feels safe. He is crate trained and housebroken. He thrives in a calm, structured environment where he knows what to expect. Forrest has not had much socialization and is not comfortable with strangers or busy environments. He needs time and patience when meeting new people and does best with someone who understands that trust has to be earned. Once Forrest knows you, his silly personality really shines through. One of Forrest's favorite games is being chased. When he is comfortable with you, he loves when you playfully stomp your foot and act like you're going to get him. He will get the zoomies, run around, and have the absolute best time. These moments show the happy, goofy side of Forrest that makes him special. Forrest enjoys short car rides to new places where he can get out and explore. He especially enjoys peaceful walks on the beach and quiet wooded trails where there aren't many people. New adventures are best when they are calm, predictable, and low stress. Forrest does have dog aggression and will need to be the only pet in the home. He is also best suited for a home without small children. A quiet household with minimal visitors and a predictable routine would be ideal for him. Forrest is very sensitive to loud noises. Fireworks and thunderstorms are extremely frightening for him, and he will need a home that can help him feel safe and secure during storms or loud events. He is not a guard dog and will not protect you-if anything, he'll stand behind you and bark. Forrest can be a bit of a 'scaredy-cat,' and he needs someone who understands that his confidence will come with time, patience, and trust. Forrest is also a bit of a picky eater. He isn't motivated by typical treats like Milk-Bones and can be selective about what he eats, so his new family may need to be patient while learning what foods and treats he enjoys. Some of Forrest's quirks: %BD' 5-year-old Chow Chow %BD' Crate trained and housebroken %BD' Loyal and deeply bonded once he trusts you %BD' Loves playful chase games and zoomies %BD' Enjoys short car rides to explore new walking spots %BD' Loves quiet beach walks and wooded trails %BD' Dog aggressive - must be the only pet %BD' Best in a home without small children %BD' Nervous with strangers and new situations %BD' Afraid of fireworks and thunderstorms %BD' Not a guard dog - more likely to hide behind you and bark %BD' Picky eater - not motivated by typical treats %BD' Thrives with patience, routine, and a calm home Forrest was HW negative and has been on heartworm treatment but will need to have his most recent vaccinations brought current and be neutered when a home is found. We understand the local shelter has offered to provide this. We were told he is 40 lbs but seems larger. He is housebroken and knows basic commands. Currently shaved a few weeks ago because air conditioning is broken so he hangs outside under a mister most of the time. Forrest isn't the right fit for every home, but for the right person, he will be an incredibly loyal and devoted companion. He needs someone willing to meet him where he is, give him time to build confidence, and offer him a safe, steady environment where he can truly thrive. Chow or similar Asian breed experience is a must and a vet reference will be required. If you are interested in meeting and adopting this handsome fella, please contact: [email protected] or Southern California Chow Chow Rescue Network who is assisting the owner with his placement.
