BDRA is an all-volunteer 501(c)(3) charity that accepts no fees when helping individuals or other rescues. 100% of donations go directly to the care of the animals. If you'd like to help us continue our mission, please donate at: https://www.blinddogrescue.org/donate-1. Name: Winston Age: DOB approx. Sept 2024 Breed: Bernedoodle, approx. 45 pounds Sex: Male (neutered) Location: Livingston Parish, Louisiana URGENT: TIME SENSITIVE Just stop with the cuteness! Adorable Winston needs a new forever home quickly. Foster home/owner must find him a home by August 1. Vet Info: Winston is current with vaccinations and HW- as well as on heartworm prevention. He is completely blind - was born with no eyes. He is in great health. He does not have a microchip. Dog Info: Current owner was the foster home for Winston. Sadly, because he was blind the rescue was unable to find him a home. Winston's foster home has seven dogs, a cat and a parrot. For the first 6 months things went well but Winston and one of the owner's other dogs are both very possessive of the owner and both alphas. When they are together in the same room with the owner, they fight over who gets to be closer to the owner. Owner/foster has been trying to find him a new home and now timing is critical. Owner is moving on August 1st and Winston can not go to the new home with them. There are only two issues that need to be overcome. One, he needs a home without another alpha male. Two, he needs a more quiet home. With seven other dogs barking, Winston wants to be included and he can't tell where he is supposed to be with barking coming from all directions. This causes him to crash into everything (and everybody). For this reason, he also should not live with young children. He is not able to see where a person is and might knock over and hurt a young child by accident. Foster/owner describes Winston as the sweetest and best boy ever. He is completely house trained, crate trained and never tears anything up. If owners are awake after 10pm, Winston will actually put himself to bed! He rides very well in the car, he will lay down and not move until you get to your destination. He goes to the groomer on a regular basis and does very well. Owner's would keep him and deal with keeping the alphas separate but where they are moving is not safe for him, at all. If, for any reason, it does not work out with an adopter, they will take him back and work on finding him another home. The only goal is to have him safe and happy. Winston is an ideal family pet, he loves to lay at your feet and follow you around. Most people that meet him do not believe he is blind because he is so good at mapping areas quickly. Winston cannot go back to his original rescue because they have changed their focus to small dogs with neonatal pups and there are no available foster homes for him. Winston is an indoor dog with the run of the house, he is leash trained and knows the commands: 'sit, crate and come'. He has never had any obedience training. Winston is very outgoing, he hasn't met a person he doesn't like. He is good with men, women, teens, female and non-alpha male dogs (both large and small - lives with Standard Poodles and Chihuahuas and a Yorkie!) He is also good with cats and other small animals. Winston is not at all possessive with treats, toys or food, he has never shown any aggression to any person or animal besides the other alpha male in the home. **Owner Surrender Disclaimer: These are blind and visually impaired dogs who are living in homes, but their owners can no longer keep them. These dogs are with their owners and are not in BDRA foster homes.
