He is 'Rescue Only' and needs a rescue hero to save him�'�%BC��%8F��s� We are crushed for SAMMY. This very sweet and loving senior Malinois came to the South LA shelter as an owner surrender less than two months ago. His owner moved away but left good notes about SAMMY. He reported that SAMMY was friendly with strangers, good around children and other dogs, and noted that SAMMY was fearful around cats. The owner also stated that SAMMY loves music and playing with toys. Understandably, SAMMY has had a very hard time with shelter life. In playgroup, SAMMY displays anxious behavior, attempting to jump the fence or jump on the cart. He often keeps to himself during playgroup sessions, mingling at times but preferring people over other dogs (He is consistently friendly and affiliative with his handlers). With volunteers, SAMMY has been easy to retrieve from his kennel and both playful and affectionate in a yard. He takes treats gently and loves to lean in for pets and cuddles. SAMMY is now set for euthanasia because he has an increasingly hard time managing the stress of walking through the kennels. He will jump up an nip at the leash and clothing in a non malicious but concerning way (misplaced bite risk). On his last outing for playgroup, he briefly got a hold of runner's shirt but was easily moved off using a hip check. Notably SAMMY sought affection from the same runner once in the catch pen. After playgroup, his handler gave SAMMY a cork (to carry in his mouth) on the way back to his kennel and took the cork about half the way back without any jumping up from SAMMY. This sweet soul needs out of the shelter environment and into a loving and supportive home environment with someone knowledgeable about the breed. He's a good boy in desperate need of a good home.
