About Stumpy

Stumpy is a male, neutered, Corgi Labrador who will be 7 yrs old in October 2026. He is a very friendly, relaxed dog and basically never barks. He mostly just lays around the house. He only barks if another dog is being confrontational, or if he sees a rabbit or duck he wants to chase. I took him to the dog parks a lot and he gets along well with other dogs. Sometimes he'll growl at male un-neutered dogs, but once he's around them for a while, he's fine with them. I believe he's allergic to chicken. Never had him tested, but whenever I fed him anything with chicken in it, his stool was very wet. And whenever I stopped feeding him anything with chicken in it, his stool was more solid. If he hears a police siren, sometimes he'll howl. He likes to roll around in the grass and growl sometimes. He's not big on toys, but his favorite toy seems to be the Hartz DuraPlay rubber bones. If you can get a small, non-squeaky one, he seems to like those a lot. He's potty trained and knows several tricks like shake, stay, come, sit, stand, up, weave (through the legs), and down. He kind of knows spin, and he does roll over sometimes, but it's easier for him on soft surfaces. I have tile, so he often only rolled over halfway. He had Valley Fever for a while, but it's under control where he doesn't need medication. Valley Fever History: -9/24/2025: Tested positive for Valley Fever at a 1:2 ratio; started Fluconazole -Dec 2025: Tested positive for Valley Fever at a 1:2 ratio; continued Fluconazole -Dec 2025: Tested positive for Valley Fever at a 1:2 ratio; continued Fluconazole -Mar 2026: Tested positive for Valley Fever at a 1:1 ratio (dormant); stopped Fluconazole on 4/17/2026 after Vet interpreted results and said it was okay -7/20/2026: Final Valley Fever titer test scheduled; if 1:1 or less, he can stay off Fluconazole indefinitely Sometimes he'll have reverse sneezing fits at night. It sounds bad, but it's normal. You can either wait it out, pet him, or hold his mouth shut and block one nostril (technique from internet to help with reverse sneezing). Took him to the vet for it and they said it was fine and there's no need to do anything about it. They said there's no issues when touching his neck, indicating no immediate tracheal irritation. If you want, they could do full head CT to focus on the nasal cavity & sinuses and look at issues with the sinuses; or they could take X-rays of his neck & chest. Or you could use a humidifier at night. I didn't do any of these, and he's fine. He loves to sniff bushes and car tires. If you get him running, especially if he's chasing a rabbit, he's very fast. Stumpy would thrive in a home with a back yard, doggy door. and another dog to keep him company.
