HOBO HAS LOST HIS PERSON, HIS HOME, AND EVEN HIS SECOND CHANCE... BUT HE IS STILL WAITING HOBO IS PICK YOUR OWN ADOPTION FEE For nearly 14 years, Hobo belonged to Deborah. She was his person, his home, and the center of the only life he had ever known. Hobo never had to wonder where he belonged because, as long as he had Deborah, he was home. Then Deborah had to enter a nursing home, and Hobos whole world changed. He could not understand why his person was gone or why the life he had always known had suddenly disappeared. Deborah later passed away, and one of the things she wanted most was for her ole boy to be safe, loved, and given a home for the rest of his life. Hobo came to us carrying all those years of love and all that confusion. He was an old dog who had lost the one person he trusted most, and there was no way for us to explain to him that she was not coming back. Not long after coming into our care, Hobo slipped away from a transporter at an out-of-county veterinarians office. He was missing for more than a month. We searched, worried, and honestly feared we had lost Deborahs ole boy forever. Somehow, Hobo survived, and when he was finally found, we were just grateful to have him back where we knew he was safe. The shelter slowly became the closest thing Hobo had to another home. He learned our voices, our routines, and which people he could trust. He grew attached to the volunteers who cared for him, and we grew even more attached to him. Then the day finally came when Hobo was adopted. We watched him leave believing that Deborahs wish had finally come true. After everything he had survived, we thought Hobo was finally going to spend his remaining years in a real home. But only a few days later, Hobo came back. There had been an incident involving a child. Hobo bit, although he did not break the skin. Hobo is an elderly dog with arthritis and pain in his hips and back legs, and we believe that pain played a part in what happened. He was returned scared, confused, and so overwhelmed that he soiled himself in the vehicle. When he arrived back at the shelter that night, he hid beneath a tree. The volunteer with him did not have the heart to force him back into a kennel. Since the temperature was cool, Hobo was given the play yard to himself for the night. Once again, the shelter became his safe place. That may be the saddest part of Hobos story. He truly loves the shelter because it is where the people he trusts are, but a shelter was never supposed to become this ole boys forever home. After everything that happened when Hobo went missing, we wanted to give him every extra layer of protection we could. Hobo is now microchipped, and a Fi GPS tracker will be included with his adoption. Wherever Hobos next chapter takes him, we want to make sure he can always be found and brought safely home. What Hobo needs now is not complicated. He needs a quiet, adult home with a securely fenced yard, no young children, and no other dogs. He needs someone who understands that senior dogs can hurt, that boundaries matter, and that loving an old dog sometimes means giving him the time and space he needs. Hobo previously lived around cats with Deborah, so cats may be possible with careful introductions. He will also need his daily medication to help keep him comfortable. Hobo has already lost his person. He has already lost his home. He has already been lost on his own, found again, adopted, and returned. Please do not let the shelter be the final chapter of his story. Somewhere, there has to be someone willing to give Deborahs ole boy the peaceful ending she wanted for him.
