Siberian Husky mix

BOBBY: THE LAST ONE WAITING. Animal ID: IEPA-A-18599. Breed: Siberian Husky Mix. Age: 2 years, 6 months. Sex: Male, Neutered. Weight: 62 lbs. Location: Upland Animal Shelter, Upland, California. Intake Date: February 5, 2026. Bobby has a story that is difficult to tell without getting a little emotional. He came to the shelter from a home where 16 Huskies were living together. They did not appear to have been neglected, but there were simply too many dogs for the small home. Thirteen of them, including Bobby, were brought to our municipal shelter. Suddenly, everything Bobby had ever known was gone. Because the shelter did not have enough kennels for so many dogs arriving at once, some of them initially shared kennels. In a way, this gave them comfort as they adjusted to the enormous change in their lives. But as time passed, the dogs were separated into individual kennels. Then, one by one, Bobby's family began to leave. One was adopted. Then another. And another. Until Bobby was the last one. Bobby is still waiting. For months, I noticed something unusual when I took him for walks in the park. Most Huskies are busy exploring-sniffing everything, marking trees, watching squirrels and investigating the world around them. But Bobby wasn't doing that. He would look around. And look. And look again. In every direction. It always felt as though he was waiting for someone. As though he was searching for the family and the dogs he had lived with, expecting them to appear and take him home. And Bobby would cry and howl. If you have ever heard a Husky truly cry, you know the sound. There was a sadness in his voice that was impossible to ignore. But something beautiful has begun to happen. Over the last month, Bobby has started to change. He is beginning to explore. He sniffs the grass. He marks the trees. He notices the squirrels. Little by little, Bobby is learning to be a Husky again. And through everything, he has remained an absolute sweetheart. Bobby is a hugger. When I take him out of his kennel, he jumps up-not just from excitement, but because he wants to be close. He wants to hug, and most of all, he wants to be hugged. Once he has spent some time playing and we head out for our walk, he settles down beautifully. We are working with him on his enthusiastic jumping, and he is smart, eager to learn and very treat motivated. Bobby walks well on leash, knows basic commands including 'sit,' loves water, and enjoys being active. He is affectionate, social, playful, vocal and full of personality-a true Husky who has finally begun rediscovering his joy. He is good with other dogs and would thrive with a playful canine companion. After spending his early life surrounded by dogs, I can easily imagine Bobby in a home with another dog-or even several-running, playing and enjoying the companionship he has always known. I can also imagine him devoted to one special person or sharing his enormous heart with a whole family. Bobby doesn't seem to care how big or small his future family is. He just wants to belong to one again. He would do best in an active home that will give him exercise, play, affection and continued guidance. Because of his energetic, jumpy nature, a home with children ages 13+ is recommended. He has not been tested with cats. Bobby is both a staff favorite and a volunteer favorite, and it isn't difficult to understand why. Beneath that beautiful Husky exterior is a deeply affectionate dog who loves connection and has so much kindness to give. All of the dogs Bobby arrived with have moved on. Now it is Bobby's turn. We hope that somewhere out there is the person-or family-who will finally show him that he doesn't have to keep looking into the distance anymore. Because this time, someone has come for him.
