About Peresephone

This is Persephone, our goofy Mastiff mix. We brought her home hoping she'd be the perfect addition to our family and our new house. She truly is an amazing dog 98% of the time, and making the decision to find her a new home has been one of the hardest things we've ever had to do. Persephone is incredibly loving and affectionate. She genuinely believes she's a lap dog, loves to cuddle, and has a silly personality that keeps us laughing. She adores running and playing with Oliver. They'll chase each other around the house, and when he sits down, she usually tries to climb into his lap to play. She also gets along well with our cats. In fact, she has one favorite cat that she follows around and even naps beside during the day. She absolutely loves certain people. My mom and brother are her favorites, and she gets so excited to see my brother that she still pees a little every time he comes over, even after all this time. With new people, she can be a little unsure at first and usually just needs a chance to warm up. The reason we're looking to rehome her is because she has resource guarding around food. She eats all of her meals in her locked kennel, but if a cat comes near while she's eating, she'll growl. If she's enjoying a treat and Oliver gets too close, she'll growl and curl her lip. She has never bitten a person or another animal, but with a young child in the home, we aren't willing to risk that situation ever escalating. Our work schedules (Monday through Friday, 8-5) also mean she spends more time alone than we'd like. She thrives on attention and being close to her people, and we know she deserves a home where she can get more of that. We're not rehoming her because we don't love her-we love her very much. We're doing it because we want what's best for both Persephone and our family. She deserves a home that can give her the time, attention, and management she needs to truly thrive. We're looking for someone who understands large breeds, is familiar with resource guarding (or willing to learn), and can give this sweet, goofy girl the life she deserves.
