Meet Jake %9D%A4%8F Jake is a 2-year-old Jack Russell Terrier/Chihuahua mix weighing about 10 pounds. Beneath his timid exterior is a sweet little soul who desperately wants to love and be loved. He just needs someone willing to help him believe that people can be trusted. Jake has clearly been through experiences that have left him anxious and fearful. He can be nervous around new people and situations, often growling when he's scared. If he feels overwhelmed, he may nip, but he almost always gives a warning first. He's not a bad dog-he's a frightened one who needs patience, understanding, and time to build confidence. The good news? Jake absolutely gets along with other dogs. He loves to play, enjoys having a canine companion, and has done very well living with another dog. We think a confident, friendly dog in his forever home could help him continue to come out of his shell. Because he's young and full of energy, Jake would love a securely fenced yard where he can safely run and burn off some of his nervous energy. He would thrive with someone who is home much of the time and committed to helping him continue his training. He has made progress with potty training but still has occasional accidents, and like many young dogs, he enjoys chewing if he isn't given appropriate outlets. Jake's anxiety has been significant enough that we've been working with medication, and veterinary visits are especially difficult for him despite pre-visit medication. He will need an adopter who understands that healing from fear takes time and is willing to celebrate the small victories along the way. Jake's ideal home: * No children. * Someone home most of the day. * A patient, calm adopter committed to positive-reinforcement training. * A securely fenced yard is a big plus. * Another friendly dog would likely be wonderful for him. Jake isn't looking for a perfect home-he's looking for the right person. Someone who sees past the fear and recognizes the loving little dog waiting underneath. If you're willing to give him the time and patience he deserves, Jake has all the potential to become the loyal, affectionate companion you've been waiting for.
