About Gumbo

Meet Gumbo, a truly special girl looking for the loving home she deserves. After a difficult start in life, she has shown nothing but resilience, love, and a joyful spirit. She came into my life after being surrendered to the emergency veterinary clinic where I work. Due to severe neglect and abuse in her previous home, one of her legs could not be saved and had to be amputated. Despite everything she's been through, she doesn't let being a tripod slow her down. She gets around well, enjoys exploring, and is ready to live life to the fullest. She was also heartworm positive when she was rescued, but she has since completed treatment and is ready to move on to her next chapter. She absolutely loves people and has been wonderful with both adults and children. She thrives on attention, affection, and being part of the family. She has a playful personality and is always excited to make new friends. She is very interested in cats and wants to play with them, although she doesn't always understand that they may not share her enthusiasm. Because of this, she would do best with dog-savvy cats who are comfortable setting boundaries, or in a home without cats. She has seemed comfortable around other dogs, but she has not had formal introductions or extensive testing, so any potential canine siblings should be introduced thoughtfully. She is not yet spayed, but she will be spayed before going to her new home. Her vaccinations will also need to be updated by her adopter as part of her ongoing routine veterinary care. More than anything, she deserves a home where she will be cherished, kept safe, and never have to wonder if she's loved again.
