About Phoenix

Adoption Fee: $250
German Shepherd
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Female

Phoenix is a 100lb fluff ball. She was raised around kids, cats, and other dogs. She will chase cats and small dogs but she doesn't know what to do with them after that. She just wants to play. She is happiest with her people. She has never once tried to run away and is incredibly loyal. When my kids would play outside in Mississippi, she would be sent with them to make sure they were safe. If they ever tried to leave the yard she would bark to notify me. She will bark when strangers approach or when she's excited or hears a noise outside. She is a loud player and barks while playing as well. Her favorite toy is a ball. She will play fetch for hours. She loves chewing on antler bones and is a big fan of the occasional hit of whipped cream. She is kennel trained. She will put herself to bed and is usually in her kennel when she is left at home. But she can be left out as well and has never caused any damage. She has no issues with fireworks or thunderstorms. She is fed a small breakfast in the morning to keep her stomach happy during the day and dinner around 7pm. She is given a Nuvet supplement with her dinner. She loves them. If she needs any medicine I usually add it to her food bowl and she takes it without any issue. She will be 5 in December. She is fixed. And she does have a tendency to chase her tail. I spoke to our vet about it. He said that German shepherds tend to be anxious. He recommended that we try clomicalm to help her. We've been doing 1/2 a pill in her food each night. It seemed to help a lot at first but I think the dose needs to be increased. I'm used to it at this point. The vet said that it's a habit she needs help breaking. If I get her attention I can get her to stop. She loves playing in water, especially the hose. She is also a big fan of popping bubbles. If you toss a balloon to her she will use her nose to boop it into the air. She is such a sweet dog. She doesn't know how big she is so she tends to knock my kids down. But she loves kids and will try to herd them if she thinks they're getting too far away. She will let you know when she goes out by nudging you or will wait by the door and look at you until you understand the telepathic message she is trying to send you. She is really well trained to walk on a leash. I use a prong collar when we're on a leash. But I leave her collar off when we're at home because of her long beautiful coat.
