Mimi is an adorable Silky Terrier mix, about 6 years old and weighs 16 lbs. She was pulled from a local shelter with no history or background information to tell us what she had been through before arriving there. We believe her behavior stems from past neglect and possible abuse. She has a huge personality, is incredibly smart and athletic. When Mimi first came into our group, she was extremely fearful of hands, any fast movements and having a leash or harness put on. It was clear to us that she was working through her fears. She has made wonderful progress in the last month with the help of a great trainer and is starting to learn that people can be kind and her confidence is growing. Mimi needs a patient adopter, adult(s) only, who will allow her to move at her own pace and continue to build her trust. When she's frightened, she can become defensive so needs someone who understands fearful dogs and can commit to helping her succeed. Mimi needs someone to help her learn that she never needs to be afraid again. She is extremely food motivated, which will make her continued training easier. Because of her high energy level, she would be best suited in a home with a backyard for her to run and perhaps a playmate (she loves other dogs). She deserves stability and understanding with someone who sees past her fear and into her heart. Mimi is crate trained, up to date on vaccines, spayed and microchipped.
