This is one of the hardest decisions I've ever had to make, but I am looking for a new home for my Australian Cattle Dog. I love him very much, but I can no longer provide the environment he needs. He is an almost 8-year-old neutered male (birthday October 1) who genuinely enjoys being around people. He is house-trained, well behaved indoors, and not destructive. He takes great care of his toys and is generally a calm dog in the house. Around children, he mostly ignores them and has never shown a tendency to nip or herd them. He does, however, have a history of fighting with other dogs. There was a gap of about three years between his last dog fight and the most recent incident, largely because we carefully managed and kept him separated from our other dogs. Unfortunately, despite those precautions, he recently got into the house as our dogs were coming inside and immediately initiated a fight with our other male dog. Thankfully, neither dog was seriously injured, but it reinforced that he cannot safely live in a multi-dog household. Outside of his issues with other dogs, he is an excellent companion. He loves hiking, swimming, and spending time outdoors. He has excellent off-leash recall, naturally stays close to his person, and rarely wanders out of sight. He would do well with someone who enjoys adventure. I'm looking for a home where he can be the only dog. This decision is heartbreaking, and my only goal is to find him a home where he can live safely and have the quality of life he deserves. I'm happy to answer any questions and be completely transparent about his history so that the right match can be made.
