About Lucky

Lucky- 17 year-old 16.1hh TB gelding- lightly rideable W/T/C English/Western or companion horse. Lucky is seeking the perfect companion-focused home where he can enjoy a laid-back lifestyle. He is lightly rideable and happily goes both English and Western walk, trot, and canter, but his ideal home would be mainly a pasture pet. Under saddle, Lucky has an excellent work ethic and is more of a kick ride with no bolt, buck, or rear. He needs an experienced, confident intermediate to advanced rider who understands his personality. He prefers ring work: he is too nervous on trails, and can do flatwork only. Lucky's story proves that second chances can change everything. Known on the racetrack as GatorChamp, he made 22 career starts, earning $50,506 with two wins before his racing days came to an end. In 2013, Lucky was scheduled to be euthanized. Thankfully, fate had other plans, and he was given the second chance he deserved as a pleasure horse, affectionately known as Loo Loo by his former owner. Those who know Lucky might compare him to the Grinch: a little gruff, opinionated, and rough around the edges at first. Once you earn his trust, however, he has an enormous heart of gold and unwavering loyalty. He tends to bond closely with his person and thrives in a quiet, consistent program where less is more. Lucky absolutely LOVES a spa day. During a good grooming session, he will soon be standing with his eyes closed, completely relaxed and nearly asleep. He also adores having his face brushed with an extra soft brush: that is pure bliss in his book. His favorite treat is a classic red-striped peppermint. Lucky does best living outside with 24/7 turnout. He is required to wear front shoes for comfort due to thin soles and maintained on Equioxx for mild arthritic changes related to age and his previous racing career. His former owner is happy to provide full veterinary records and medical history prior to coming to HRU. Lucky also comes with his bridle and blankets.
