Meet Sage !! Are you looking for a small clingy companion to hang out with all the time? He might be your guy! Sage is a 3 year old male Bichon mix. He weighs 18 pounds and is full grown. He has a fresh new haircut. The previous owner cut him down super short for the summer due to him enjoying going to the beach. He has already been neutered, up to date on vaccines and microchipped. He is thankfully heartworm negative. Sage really needs a home where someone is home often. He's a needy kinda guy in the companionship department. He has a lot of love to give to his new family and he gets upset when they aren't around much. We were told sage had a lot more training than he showing us. We aren't sure if what we are seeing is just adjustment issues or not but he currently still needs work on a lot of his training. He's not a bad guy he just needs a confident and consistent family to show him the expectations and give him time to adjust to a new place. He is crate trained as far as not going potty in it but is very whiny when crated. He does settle down after awhile when he can't see you but it takes a bit. He's great on car rides. He is working on his leash walking but isn't perfect. He will pull after things or places he wants to check out. He enjoys walks but doesn't have a ton of stamina for long walks. He's also a bit afraid of bikes/motorcycles etc and may get scared and stop walking. We were told he was potty trained but we are not seeing that. He may just need time to adjust. He currently marks his territory inside. He was just neutered (07/01) so we hope the marking will start to fade now that it's done. Sage does well with other dogs. He wasn't raised around other dogs, but he seems to really be enjoying all the dogs that he's met. He likes to play even with the bigger dogs. He has never been around cats here so we are not sure how he would do. He is extremely loving and has done great with all the kids he has met. He would need to be with kids that are respectful and don't treat him like a toy. We were told that he was very weary of adult strangers but we have seen the opposite here. When he walked into the crowded vet office, he wanted to pull towards every person waiting in the office to get attention. He also had no trouble running right up to meet his foster family. He did really well on his first vet visit, but for his neuter he was scared and a little snippy at first. Overall he seems to lack confidence at times. Sage has a low to medium energy level. He's not super energetic, but does have moments of playfulness and Zoomies. He enjoys short walks and playing with other dogs and then he likes to lounge and cuddle or just hang out in the same room as you. He has shown no issues sharing treats, toys or food with other people. He takes treats gently. He has always been fed separately from any other animals so we aren't sure how he would do sharing his food with them. Sage is a very sweet, loving boy. He's always been treated well and his family only gave him up so that he could be with people who are home more often. He would make a great dog for a senior or family that's home more than they are gone. |%8F|%8FHe will need regular grooming.
