Stirling is about 2 years old. He's extremely high energy and has an extremely high natural herding drive. Unfortunately he's also very skittish and nervous with men and we've been completely unequipped to train him NOT to try to herd my young daughter or her friends. He's afraid of my husband and we don't know why but believe it's because he's a really big guy. He will randomly not be willing to be near my husband and has had many occasions where he won't even eat because my husband is the one trying to get him to the kitchen for food. This is untenable because I am in the military and will soon have to start traveling for work again. He's food protective and growls if my daughter is anywhere near him while he's eating. He loves to play and very much wants to play with other dogs but we have been absolutely unsuccessful at training him not to just bite at their legs and I believe he's going to get hurt. I have loved this dog for almost his whole life. We rescued him from a situation I believe he'd have died in. But after almost 2 years I have to admit our home isn't the right fit.
