Jeter is a 5-year-old neutered male German Shepherd weighing approximately 111 pounds. Jeter is an incredibly sweet, affectionate dog who loves being around people. He enjoys attention, likes to be close to his family, and has a gentle, loving personality. He has never shown aggression toward people and has no bite history. He enjoys being part of the family and likes to be where his people are. Like many German Shepherds, Jeter is a strong, intelligent dog who becomes excited easily and doesn't always realize his size or strength. He would benefit from continued obedience training and an owner who has experience with large working breeds. He wants to please but needs consistency, structure, and patience. Jeter currently lives with our 10-year-old son and has done well with him. However, because of his size and enthusiasm, he can accidentally knock someone over when he gets excited. For that reason, we believe he would be best suited for a home without small children or toddlers. We are unsure how he does with other dogs, so any introductions should be done slowly and carefully. Jeter has recently started anti-anxiety medication to help him adjust to significant life changes, including our family's recent move and the transition from living primarily outdoors to becoming an indoor companion. We are hopeful that, with time, patience, and the right environment, his confidence and comfort will continue to improve. He is currently on heartworm prevention and Bravecto for flea and tick prevention. He is healthy overall and is only due for his annual rabies vaccination. This decision has been incredibly difficult for our family. Unfortunately, due to serious medical issues within our household, we can no longer safely provide the environment that Jeter needs. My husband has significant health concerns, and Jeter's size and strength have created safety issues despite his loving nature. We feel the most compassionate decision is to find him a home that can provide the time, training, exercise, structure, and attention he deserves. We truly love Jeter and want nothing more than for him to have a happy, successful future with an experienced family that understands German Shepherds and can help him thrive.
