About Peanut

Adoption Fee: $100
Bulldog
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Female

Peanut is a 4.5-year-old spayed English Bulldog who is up to date on all of her shots. She is fully house-trained, crate-trained, and has a big personality packed into a little bulldog body. Peanut is a sweet, playful, high-energy girl who would do best in a calm, patient, adult home with someone who understands anxious or reactive dogs. She can be very nervous and startles easily when things change around the house. Because of that anxiety, she can be protective when visitors come over. She has never bitten anyone, but she will bark heavily at new people and may jump as a warning if someone makes direct eye contact or tries to pet her before she is ready. Once Peanut feels safe and realizes someone is not a threat, her fun and loving personality comes out. If new adult visitors ignore her at first and give her time to settle, she can warm up and become playful, happy, and affectionate. Peanut currently lives with two children, but because of her high energy and anxiety, she would likely do best in a home without young children or frequent child visitors. She can chase and accidentally knock children down when she gets excited. Her experience with other dogs is limited. She has reacted aggressively toward dogs brought into her home, which may be territorial behavior. We do not know how she would do with another dog if introduced properly in a neutral setting, so a home where she can be the only dog may be best. In public places, such as Lowe's, Peanut is usually calm and enjoys walking around. She does not seem bothered by people around her, though we do not allow strangers to pet her because she can become scared. Peanut has many wonderful qualities. She is incredibly sweet, funny, and full of personality. She is not destructive and sticks to chewing her own toys or ripping up cardboard boxes. She loves her crate and uses it as her safe space, often going in on her own to sleep. Peanut does have some ongoing care needs. She has urinary leaking and takes Proin, though it is not completely effective, so she wears washable diapers indoors. She also needs a daily wipe-down of her wrinkles, toes, and private areas with chlorhexidine wipes to prevent rashes. She takes daily allergy and joint supplements. She tore her CCL when she was younger, so she may occasionally limp if she overdoes it while running outside. Peanut is very loved and well cared for, but due to severe family allergies, her anxiety, and her energy level not being the right match for our household, we are looking for a better-suited home where she can truly thrive. She needs someone patient, understanding, and willing to give her the structure, space, and love she deserves.
