Hi there, I'm reaching out because I'm in a tough spot and want to do right by my dog, even if that means he's not with me anymore. He's a 5-year-old pointer/heeler/cattle dog mix, black and white, about 55 pounds, fully up to date on his shots. He has one ear that stands permanently at attention and one that flops down, which pretty much sums up his whole goofy, lovable personality. He's great with other dogs (lived happily with a Great Dane and another cattle dog) and has lived with cats twice without any issues. He's well potty trained, doesn't chew or destroy anything, knows sit and shake, and is genuinely easy to live with. The only time he gets a little wound up is if he hasn't eaten or really needs to go out. Here's the heart of it: his favorite thing in the world is being outside. For two years he lived in a home with a yard and a doggie door, and he used it constantly. He'd sleep outside on the patio or grass late into the night just feeling the breeze on his face, completely content. My living situation recently changed and I had to move into a small apartment in Phoenix, and on top of that my job is about to require more travel. He's gone from having total freedom to being stuck inside most of the day, and it's breaking my heart to watch. I don't see a path back to a home with a yard anytime soon, and I refuse to let him just exist like this when he could be thriving somewhere else. His ideal home would have a fenced yard and a doggie door so he can come and go as he pleases. He'd be incredible with active teenagers or middle schoolers who'd throw the ball or take him on hikes, or with an adult who just wants a happy, easygoing buddy by their side. He warms up to new people fast and I have zero doubt he'd settle into the right family quickly and completely. I'm willing to drive him anywhere in the country if it means he ends up somewhere he can really thrive. If you can help, or even if you just know of another rescue or family who might be a fit, I would be so grateful. And if it's not too much to ask, the one selfish thing I'd love is a holiday photo of him each year, just to know he's happy. Thank you so much for taking the time to read this and for everything you do.
