Thank you so much. Case opened on: 6/30/26 URGENT!!! EMERGENCY! AT RISK AND MAY BE EUTHANIZATED SOON!!! My heart is literally breaking for this poor guy. Kenton, Ohio (Willing to drive up to 2 hours). 2.5-Year-Old MALE Dark Sable AKC Registered GSD (DOB: 8/15/23). His name is 'Cooper.' Background: Current Shepherd Parent has had Cooper since he was weaned. NOT UTD on shots WITH record. NOT Fixed. Good with kids, BUT PLEASE READ CAREFULLY. Cooper currently lives with children ages 7, 7, and 10 and is fantastic with them until he is accidentally hurt. If a child falls on him, steps on his tail, or causes him pain, he reacts very quickly out of fear and pain by nipping. Because of this, Cooper must go to a home with NO young children. Good with dogs, but cautious and needs time and Proper Introductions before becoming comfortable. Good with cats. Currently lives with one cat and one dog. He will play and chase the cats but also snuggles with the cat and has shown no aggression. House trained. Crate trained. Any known medical issues? Cooper recently suffered a partially degloved and broken tail after it was accidentally shut in a door on 6/24/26 by one of the kids. His tail required stitches, and the veterinarian expects him to be fully healed after 7/24/2026. Abuse/Neglect/Trauma History? None disclosed. ENERGY LEVEL: Medium. PREY DRIVE LEVEL: Low. Weighs: 67 lbs. Currently on Purina Pro Plan Performance 30/20 Salmon food. Good with car rides? No. He becomes very anxious and whines throughout the ride. Socialized with: *People?: Yes. *Dogs?: Yes, but not often. Good with meeting new people? (ALWAYS USE PROPER INTRODUCTION!): Yes, but Reactive at first. Proper introductions and treats are a must. Once he warms up, he does very well. Loves: Playing hide-and-seek, tug-of-war, learning tricks for blueberries, blueberries, carrots, ice cubes, cuddling, walks, chilling on the couch, playing with kids and dogs, balls, sleeping in bed with his person, being near his person, jerky, and Kong toys. Important: Cooper will chew and swallow the strings from rope toys. Please keep anything string-like away from him. Nail Trims: Cooper must be muzzled for nail trims and Gabapentine and Trazadone the night before and 2 hrs before his appt. Intelligent and knows Basic Commands? This breed is super intelligent. Good Recall? (ALWAYS RETRAIN BEFORE ALLOWING OFF LEASH): Yes. Good on a Leash? No. He needs continued leash training with someone strong enough to safely handle him. Lovable? This breed is super lovable once they claim you as their person/family. Eager and fast learner? This breed is super fast learners when they are being committed to and worked with. Bite History?: 2 minor incidents, both were complete accidents where her sons fell on him and his teeth caught their ears. Both were a year apart. Second is recently when her son accidentally shut the door on his tail and it ended up breaking his tail and degloved it partially. While he was in extreme pain, she put Cooper in the tub bc he was gushing blood, and when she tried cleaning him, he had gotten extremely defensive and when she went to grab a little bit below the injury on his tail to take a better look, he nipped her wrist. The next day, the other dog in the home stepped on Cooper's broken tail and Cooper was in extreme pain, and had caused it to bleed again. When the Current Shepherd Parent went to grab the tail to look at it, Cooper bit her in the nose out of pain and fear. I want to note how excruciatingly painful a broken tail is for a shepherd. Because of this incident, this poor guy is now in the pound being quarantined because of this bite. So he is suffering from a broken tail, in extreme pain and now being isolated, alone and scared at the shelter. NOTES FROM CURRENT SHEPHERD PARENT: 'Cooper is full of life and energy, he loves to play hide and seek, eat blueberries and cuddle. He will play fetch for hours and bark at random noises. He is great with other dogs once he has some time to get used to them. After that he will be their best friend. He just needs someone who has the time to teach him new things and work with him on old things. He uses German commands and is very intelligent.' 'He needs to be muzzled for all vet visits and especially if he gets injured. He isnt aggressive until he is hurt. Which is why I say a home with no kids. Accidents happen and they happen more often with kids. With the right person Cooper can be an incredible pet. I feel like a home with another dog would benefit him. He comes from a home with another
