Meet Hocus !! This handsome boy and his brother Pocus (posted separately) ended up in an overcrowded shelter. Thankfully we were able to get them out safely and they are thriving! ***They need to go to SEPARATE homes*** Hocus is male and approx 9 weeks old. The person that turned them over to the shelter said they are Golden Retriever and Rottie mix but we aren't sure. He is currently 16 pounds and will likely be a larger dog full grown. He will be given several sets of vaccines, deworming, a microchip and neuter as part of his adoption. Hocus is a happy, spunky and super fun puppy. He loves everyone and everything and enjoys life so much. Really a fantastic personality. He is a very energetic and active puppy that needs a very active home. He is fearless and definitely needs a firm consistent owner to transform all that confidence into positive behaviors. He loves other dogs and loves all people. He can be very rambunctious when playing so another active dog to roughhouse with would be best. He may be to much for dogs that aren't playful. He is fostered with cats but we can already see he's going to be to much for them. He tries to chase them and isn't getting the concept that they don't play like dogs. Hocus is very loving to everyone but currently may be too much puppy for smaller kids. He's very excitable and mouthy when playing. Older kids and adopters that have a firm grip on working with puppy behaviors would be best. He is doing well with his training for his young age. He's really starting to grasp potty training when taken out regularly. He still has accidents but is understanding the concept more and more each day. He is not yet leash trained. He does very well in the crate and doesn't potty in it. He sleeps in the crate overnight currently with one overnight potty break. He needs crate training from his new family. He has a hard time shutting off his play mode and needs that calm space to learn to settle. He's been great on car rides but will try to climb in your lap if not properly restrained or crated. Hocus has not had any issues so far with sharing food, treats or toys with humans or other dogs. He loves toys and anything active. He has a very high energy level. He needs structure (routine crate rests, mental enrichment, lots of play time) every day. He is a very energetic puppy. His foster says he has two speeds: asleep and chaos lol. Adopters should be aware that having a wild puppy this age is a lot of work and can be frustrating. He will have accidents. He needs to be in a puppy proof area when you're not watching him as he chews things he shouldn't. He needs regular mental stimulation, enrichment, rest time, and exercise. This is not a chill couch potato. He will need a lot of supervision but put in the work now and you'll have an awesome dog. He's a sweet boy with a desire to learn and a silly sweet personality. Adopting a young puppy is a ton of work. They will have lots of potty accidents, chew things up etc. You will need to help them learn things like leash walking, crate training and basic manners. It can be a lot of work but the reward is a dog that fits well into your family's lifestyle if you invest proper time on training with them. Please carefully consider the time and effort a puppy requires before adopting.
