X URGENT AT BAKERSFIELD, CA (CENTRAL CAL)- GORGEOUS, PUREBRED CREAM CHOW BOY, SHY BUT SWEET, KNOWS COMMANDS, OK W OTHER DOG Bakersfield Animal Care Center- ID #A169482-'SNOWBALL'- needs foster and rescue asap before he is euthanized for space at high kill shelter SHELTER IS BEYOND FULL AND ASKING FOR IMMEDIATE HELP FOR HANDSOME CHOW BOY. As many know, Bakersfield is sadly a large breeding and dumping ground for unwanted pets. This dear boy was found as a stray, is past his legal retention and now at great risk of euthanasia due to space. We have fondly named this chow boy Snowball, and the shelter estimates he is 4 years young. The shelter manager let us know he was initially good with him, but is now a bit fearful in the shelter environment. He said, 'Does come to me but is head shy. I am able to coax but is indifferent. Is indifferent with dogs as well. He wants the boundaries respects and communicates that without over correcting.' We were given nice video of him doing fine with an unrelated male chow who has since been adopted. After a few more days, a volunteer met him in the yard and said he knew basic commands. He also took treats fairly gently and was able to be pet on the head while eating. He is still a bit shy and nervous and should do much better once he has a chance to decompress outside the scary and very loud area of the shelter he is in. Snowball was having some diarrhea on 7/2, and has a noted shaved or thinning coat which should also greatly improve with some TLC and or a vet check. However, he has not had any vetting that we are aware of so far. We are desperately looking for either an adopter (when made available to adopt), or a foster and rescue before he is also killed for space.
