CODE RED!! CAN BE EUTHANIZED ANY TIME TODAY WITHOUT WARNING!!!! PLEASE HELP US SAVE HIM!! AT STOCKTON ANIMAL SERVICES in Stockton, CA in No Cal - ID #A377337 'BRUCE', an ADORABLE, YOUNGER CHOW BOY approx 3 yr old Chow Boy in crowded kill shelter, and needs out NOW or will be euthanized. While he is adoptable, we are also looking for Foster and rescue now, due to the urgency. Can be adopted, but may need rescue, and most rescues need a foster and place to go to save him! Help! We were contacted about this handsome fella who came into the very crowded Stockton Shelter as a stray. Like many chows, he was initially wary of strangers, but had since warmed up. The shelter let us know, 'Bruce arrived at the shelter on 06/10 and initially displayed growling behavior, so he was given time to decompress. After four days, he was vaccinated and moved into the general population kennels. Since then, volunteers have been walking him regularly, and he has been manageable with handling. When being removed from his kennel, Bruce becomes very excited and tends to spin around. Once leashed and outside, he pulls strongly on leash and shows little interest in engaging with the handler. Since then, our volunteers have been walking him every other day, and he has appeared comfortable with routine handling. When approached in his kennel, Bruce becomes very excited and will spin repeatedly while being prepared for removal. Once leashed and out of the kennel, he pulls strongly on leash and shows little interest in engaging with his handler. We have wonderful videos of Bruce hanging out in the office with staff, taking treats gently, enjoying pets, and also playing with and retrieving balls. He appears to be a healthy boy and does not seem to have any significant medical concerns at this time. Bruce presents as an independent dog who prefers to explore his environment rather than seek interaction from people in the shelter environment. For dog-to-dog evaluation, Bruce was introduced to a gentle, well-mannered female. During the initial introduction, he immediately approached her face and quickly escalated jumping forward at her face with lots of vocals, growling and snapping. We then attempted a much slower, more controlled introduction. During this second attempt, Bruce remained calm, appropriately sniffed the female, and then wandered off, showing minimal interest in interacting with her. The female dog later began following Bruce around the yard. Initially, Bruce tolerated her presence; however, when she displayed a small amount of playful energy, Bruce again escalated with the same concerning behavior. Due to these reactions, Bruce did not pass our shelter dog-to-dog evaluation. He appears to be a healthy boy and does not seem to have any significant medical concerns at this time. Additionally, I have included a Google Drive video link. We allowed Bruce some time to explore and decompress before filming. I was able to capture a few videos of him prior to his escalation so you can get a better idea of his behavior and personality. Bruce Google video link: https://photos.app.goo.gl/hNBREYg13Wigmaiq6 Bruce is a handsome, endearing dog who simply needs a little time to get to know people before he feels comfortable with them. In my experience, this type of reserved behavior is not uncommon for the Chow breed. Once given the opportunity to build trust, Bruce has shown that he can relax and interact appropriately with his handlers. At this time, we will list Bruce as evaluable for placement as an only dog in the home. Given our current space limitations, dogs with behavioral concerns that impact adoptability are prioritized for euthanasia consideration when kennel space becomes critically limited. Sadly, as a result, Bruce will be among the first dogs reviewed for euthanasia if a euthanasia list becomes necessary due to overcrowding. If the shelter reaches capacity and we need to make space, Bruce will likely be among the first dogs considered for euthanasia.' Bruce is adoptable, but to a home with no other dogs at this time, based on the shelter assessment. We feel he needs a slower intro to dogs and likely isn't used to them. The shelter may be reached at: 209-937-7445 Bruce's listing link: https://www.facebook.com/.../24P.../DetailsMain/STCK/A377337 He also likely needs rescue asap since he's next on the shelter's euthanasia list sadly. Since most rescue groups need a foster and place to go to save him, though. If you are interested in fostering, or foster to adopt, please contact [email protected] asap or Southern California Chow Chow Rescue Network who is trying to assist with his placement, and we can try to pair you with a rescue to help or foster or adopt through. Time is of the essence. For rescue inquiries, please also email: [email protected] His FB post is: https://www.facebook.com/debbie.alder.14/posts/pfbid02if5ZiGajAh7AhjZvZuFiZYM3nQc8gLFSAesdmC4
