Murphy is a loving, trainable, people-friendly dog we rescued from a shelter in March 2026. Before that, he spent about 3 months in the shelter after being found as a stray, so we do not know his earlier history. MOST IMPORTANT: Murphy must be the only pet in the home. He cannot live with cats, small animals, livestock/poultry, or small dogs that could be perceived as prey. He has an extremely high prey drive. He has lunged at cats multiple times and, in one serious incident, grabbed a cat in his mouth and had to be physically made to release. The cat survived, but this must be treated as a major safety issue. He should not be placed with anyone who expects to train him to safely coexist with cats. He needs an experienced adult home committed to secure handling, leash control, containment, and prey-drive management. Murphy has shown no known aggression toward humans. He has done well with teenagers, but we do not know how he is with young children. He bonds quickly, loves being near his people, and wants belly rubs as often as possible. He is generally quiet, not very toy-driven, and is happiest with companionship and a couple good walks each day. Murphy has shown some reactivity to dogs on walks, though he has improved greatly with training and now mostly whines. He has had several fenced-yard playdates with calm dogs his size and did well, mostly coexisting. We do not know how he would handle energetic dogs, small dogs, or inappropriate corrections, so he should be placed as the only pet. He is food-motivated, house-trained, crate-trained, and sleeps/crates quietly overnight and while we are at work. He knows 'cage,' 'sit,' 'down,' 'place,' 'break,' and walks nicely without pulling. He is still working on confidence with car rides, baths, ear/paw/nail handling, and being alone. He has isolation anxiety and must be crated when left alone or he may chew. He has shown resource guarding with high-value chews, so we avoid those except carefully managed crate-only items
