Looking for the right home for a special beagle. She is a soon to be 4-year-old AKC purebred beagle located in Southwest Michigan. We have her AKC papers. She's 24/25 pounds. She came to us through a rescue/foster situation after being removed from a hunter this winter from what we've been told, did not treat her well. She was on her way to the shelter when we stepped up to take her in. We love her. She's perfect in many ways we just are not in a good season of life to commit to her long term & it breaks our hearts. We've had her since May 2 and the longer she's been with us and the more comfortable she's become, the more we've realized that she would thrive with another dog, a fenced in yard so she can 'hunt' to her heart's content. She was recently spade June 10 and is recovering just fine. In fact surgery didn't slow her down. We know she was raised in a pack of hunting dogs. She seems to be living between two realities - hunting dog & couch princess. She's assimilated into our non hunting home well. I feel like she could go either way- return to a hunter or enjoy comfy retirement. We suspect she would do best with someone who has other dogs as she has never been the only dog. She currently has separation anxiety but shows promise that it's getting easier to be alone. For this reason, she would benefit from having a sibling. Her separation anxiety is the main issue why we need to find her a better fit as we are on the go a lot and have lots of upcoming travel. She's incredibly curious about everything at first & she's agile. Frankly, if there were a beagle ninja warrior competition, I suspect she would win it. She loves to maneuver in small spaces. That said, she's also incredibly sweet and affectionate. She's house broken and been inside with us the whole time. She loves attention, enjoys being close to her people, and would happily curl up beside you. She also quickly took to boating & golf carts too! Our biggest priority is finding her forever home. Any new owner will need to be patient with her and give her time to settle in. She truly has a great demeanor. She's very chill at home or anywhere, unless there's a rabbit and she'll get excited. That is starting to get better though. We aren't looking to simply rehome her anywhere. We are looking for a great fit & someone who has the patience to work with her on her anxiety or has calming dogs that will solve that problem. If you made it this far, the breeder told us her dad was the smartest beagle he's ever had and he had 54 beagles at one time. He said he was part-human. That's how we would describe her. She watches tv and recognizes us in pictures. He also said her mom bred a national champion. If you're interested or know someone who might be a good fit, send me a message. I'd be happy to share more details, photos, videos, and more of her backstory with serious inquiries. To ensure she goes to a good home, we are asking for a human reference and $150.
