Stella is an old girl that I rescued about 4 years ago, from a puppy mill in Crewe VA [along with her brother, Max]. They both had significant health issues [advanced heartworms and very poor diet]. I am guessing that they were 5 or 6 or 7 at that time, which would make Stella 9 or 10 or 11 now. But I really dont know. Stella developed hypothyroidism a few years ago and her weight ballooned up to 148 before it was brought under control. She is now at 118 {GOOD GIRL} and she takes her 2 blue pills easily. I just drop them on her dry chow and call them the 'flavor drops'. I think she knows that they make her feel good...she takes them easily. She is being fed: Kirkland [from Costco] Salmon and Sweet potato, about 3 cups a day. I live in a walkup in Richmond and its getting harder and harder for Stella to get up and down the stairs. Sometimes, she is incontinent at night but NEVER during the day. She probably needs to be almost a mostly outside dog at this stage of her life; preferably a house on one level. My house has 16 stairs, first floor to 2nd. It breaks my heart to start a search for a final home for her. I console myself with the thought that I was a good foster and that she is in far better health now than 4 years ago. Max, unfortunately, is not here. I had to let him sleep last August when his bone cancer made him imobile. August 26, 2025. I am still crying about him. We had a good connection. She is quiet most of the time, but she IS a guard dog and will warn anything. On top of everything else, I am loosing my house of 14 years (gentrification) and that doesn't help.
