Since arriving in foster care on 6/9, she has been making progress every single day as she continues to decompress and build confidence. One thing we've learned about Wellsy is that she absolutely loves toys! When she thinks no one is watching, she'll happily squeak, chew, and toss her toys around with a wagging tail. More recently, we've also started seeing her playful side shine through during potty breaks, where she'll break into joyful zoomies and gallop across the yard. Wellsy is still a shy and sensitive dog who takes time to warm up to new people and experiences. She has recently started allowing gentle pets and affection, which is a huge milestone for her. While she's not yet seeking out attention on her own, she's learning to trust more each day. She is both crate trained and potty trained. Wellsy settles nicely in her crate and has done well with her house-training routine. Because she's still building confidence, she sometimes needs a little encouragement to head outside, but once she's out in the yard, she's becoming more comfortable and playful every day. Because she's still gaining confidence, Wellsy would do best in a calm home without young children. Fast movements and a busy environment can make her nervous, and she'll thrive with a family that can provide patience, understanding, and a predictable routine. We're still learning about Wellsy's preferences when it comes to other dogs. She has shown interest in one of our resident dogs, greeting him with a wagging tail and playful behavior, but we haven't been able to fully evaluate that relationship since he is currently recovering from ACL surgery. She has also been a bit unsure around our other resident dog. As a result, we believe Wellsy may do best as the only dog in the home, where she can continue building confidence and settle into her new life at her own pace. What we know for certain is that Wellsy has come a long way in a short amount of time. Every day she becomes a little braver, a little more comfortable, and a little more herself. With patience, kindness, and love, Wellsy has all the potential to become a wonderful companion for the lucky family who gives her a chance.
