About Smitty

Meet Smitty Smitty is a handsome one year old Vizsla/lab mix. We rescued him from a high kill shelter. Smitty was so loved by staff that they found every reason to keep him alive when space became limited. Smitty became one of the resident dog testers because of his easy-going ways and gentle approach with dogs, especially new and scared ones. Smitty is an absolute gem. He is a good-looking pup with his gorgeous red coat, soulful eyes and athletic build. He weighs 41 lbs. Smitty is friendly and calm. He greets everyone with quiet caution and a tiny boop of his nose before moving in for pets and love. He walks easily on a leash and enjoys being out for walkabouts with his people. In addition to being good with other dogs, Smitty is cat friendly too. We think he'd do well with kids, and he loves being with people. Smitty is playful and loves his yard time. He will need a containment fenced yard to keep him safe. He would do well with another dog in the home. He is well-mannered, doesn't jump on people, and doesn't bark a ton. He can be a little reserved until he knows that he's safe and then he just blossoms and shines. Smitty is smart and wants to please. He travels well in a car. If you are looking for a great family dog, Smitty may be just who you're looking for. He had an army of people advocating for him just so he could get out of the kill shelter and into the safety of our no-kill shelter, giving him a second chance at a wonderful home. That speaks volumes about the kind of dog Smitty is. He is a gem and a keeper for sure. All adopters must complete an approval process which involves a reference check with current/recent vet and a brief home visit if located in the immediate area. We do permit out-of-state adoptions. Adopters MUST come to the shelter to transport their new family member home. We do not ship, nor do we transport them to their new homes.
