Meet Cesar Cesar is a four-year-old Shih Tzu. He was surrendered to us on his birthday when his mom was no longer able to care for him. Cesar is terrified at finding himself without the person he loved in an unfamiliar place. Thankfully, we have the best team surrounding Cesar with love, patience and kindness. Cesar is bonding with two of our team members and they have been able to pet and work with him. It seems that Cesar wasn't socialized very well and lived a sheltered life. Everything is new to him and a rescue shelter with the noises and smells is frightening for one who spent his time alone at home. But we know he'll come around. Cesar weighs 12 lbs. He is very shy and on guard. Quiet consistency and patience will be important to help Cesar break down the walls he's set up. Once his walls come down, we think he'll be a Velcro companion. In the short time he's been with us, we've seen progress. We know he has it in him to let himself be loved, but it won't happen right away. Shih Tzus are known for their happy-go-lucky ways. We think when Cesar understands that no one will hurt him and he sees life as fun and interesting, he is going to become a wholly new dog. He just needs a bit of time. Cesar can jump at least four feet and might be a runner (out of fear) if left unattended. He will need a containment fenced yard to keep him safe. Cesar wants to love and he gets a little anxious when his favorite team member is out of his sight. As he decompresses, we hope his confidence grows. That's what we're working on. We have not been able to test Cesar with other dogs or cats at this time as he is too frightened. He is pad trained, fully vetted and neutered. We are inviting applications as long as applicants can understand that Cesar needs some time. If interested in welcoming Cesar to your family and making his dreams come true, please submit an application online at: www.charlessmithgallhumanesociety.org. Please use the downloadable application found on our homepage. Please email our shelter ([email protected]) to make sure we received your application. All adopters must complete an approval process which involves a reference check with current/recent vet and a brief home visit if located in the immediate area. We do permit out-of-state adoptions. Adopters MUST come to the shelter to transport their new family member home. We do not ship, nor do we transport them to their new homes. Adoption policies and application procedures are detailed at the shelter website: http://charlessmithgallhumanesociety.org/ under tab All Adoptable Animals.
