About 'Chex Mix'

Santa Monica, CA in So Cal CODE RED- Sweet, affectionate chow mix to be euthanized soon at Santa Monica City Shelter if no placement is found very soon. 'Chex Mix' is currently 'rescue only' and needs a foster and rescue to step up asap to save his life. We are not sure if they will consider a chow savvy adopter. An animal care attendant at the Santa Monica Animal Shelter reached out to us for assistance in placing this big they described as 'A sweet chow chow named Chex Mix. He's about 5 or 6 and He was found as a stray sometime in Santa Monica in the beginning of March of this year and was immediately adopted. I spent about an hour total with him and I found him to be sweet and playful. I was able to pet him and give him love and check his teeth to determine his age. I was also able to pick him up and he didn't mind me handling him. Immediately he was adopted but he was also surrendered back to us about a month later mid April.' Allegedly, we understand he bit the adopter several times and chased him after he tried to give him a pill. However, the kennel attendant said, 'Ever since Chex Mix has been back, he's been handled by myself and the animal control officers here at the shelter to help assess his temperament, and just like the first time we met him he's been sweet and doesn't show signs of aggression or extreme reactivity and no known triggers. We think he also may possibly be better with women than with men.' They also provided several videos (PASTED INTO THE COMMENTS SECTION OF THIS POST) showing a very loving dog so it's unknown why this would happen. The owner adopter did not fill out any owner surrender form so the shelter may not have the whole story or truth. Sadly. Chex Mix is now going to be euthanized if we can't find a foster and rescue in the very near future.
