About Nala

Meet Nala! This beautiful 1-year-old spayed Shepherd/Lab mix is the definition of a loyal companion. She is happiest simply being wherever her people are and loves spending quality time with those she cares about. Affectionate, gentle, and eager to please, she's ready to find a family of her very own. She already knows 'sit' and 'off' and absolutely loves learning new things. Her strong food motivation makes training fun and rewarding, and she's always excited to work for a tasty treat. While toys are still a bit of a mystery to her, she much prefers playing and interacting with people anyway! She was comfortable with all-over handling and showed a sweet, gentle temperament throughout her evaluations. Around her food bowl, she does communicate that it belongs to her, giving clear warning signals and respecting boundaries rather than escalating. As with any dog, continued positive reinforcement and respectful management around meals will help her feel secure. Her story is a testament to her resilience. A kind-hearted Good Samaritan rescued her after learning her previous owners intended to abandon her in the woods. When she arrived, she was extremely thin, but despite her difficult start, she has remained loving, trusting, and eager to connect with people. She has done exceptionally well with every dog she has met at the shelter, successfully interacting with dogs of various sizes, ages, and temperaments. She also showed promising behavior around cats. During her cat assessment, she calmly approached our office cat three separate times, gave a polite sniff, and walked away each time, remaining completely unfazed by meowing or movement. She has also been very gentle with children, making her a wonderful candidate for a family home.
