Meet Rico!!! (a ~2 year old Belgian Malinois urgently looking for the right home) [Location: Clinton Township, MI] We are unsure of his exact age, but it's estimated Rico is ~2 years old. Rico recently came into our care through a family friend who had to leave the country unexpectedly, and while he is truly such a sweet, goofy, loving dog, we want to make sure he ends up in the right home where he can thrive long-term. About Rico: %BD' House-trained %BD' Not neutered %BD' Very smart and eager to learn (he picks up on training quickly) %BD' Extremely affectionate and people-friendly %BD' Silly, playful personality with lots of love to give %BD' Very sporty and task-driven Rico has a lot of energy (as expected with his breed), so he will do best with an active owner who can commit to daily exercise. Walks, playtime, and ideally continued training. He's fast, athletic, and can jump high, so a home prepared for that is important. Temperament: Rico has been very sweet and friendly with every person he's met so far. He has not shown any signs of aggression. He can be a little 'mouthy' during play (play-biting), but it has not been harmful and he is very responsive to correction and redirection. Other Animals: %BD' Has done okay with a larger dog (pit mix), very playful %BD' Likely not a good fit for small dogs or cats %BD' Would do best with dogs his size/energy level, or as the only pet Kids: We aren't sure how he would do around smaller children. He's been around a tween girl and was very sweet, just playful and strong. Because of his size and energy, a home with older kids or dog-savvy children would likely be best. Training & Behavior Notes: Rico is already showing how intelligent and trainable he is. He listens well and stays close even without a fenced yard. The main thing we're currently working through is separation anxiety, especially toward his current *primary person*. He becomes distressed when they leave the room, and especially the house, so he will need an owner who understands this and is willing to help him build confidence and security over time. We haven't had the time or ability to crate-train him, but I feel inclined to think that would help with some of his anxiety. Ideal Home: Rico would thrive with: %BD' An experienced dog owner (especially familiar with working breeds is a huge plus) %BD' An active lifestyle %BD' Someone home often or able to work through separation training %BD' A structured, loving environment %BD' Someone who plans to spend a lot of time at home or exercising Location: Clinton Township, Michigan Health history / vaccinations: Unfortunately we were not given any of this information This is a really special dog%BD'%BD| He's incredibly loyal, affectionate, and full of personality. We just want to make sure he finds a home that matches his needs so he can truly settle in and be happy. We don't want him to continue to be passed around and really want him to find his forever home where he can thrive.
