About Ruby

German Shepherd / Australian Shepherd
Age: Puppy
Sex: Female

Ruby A752945 1 Year Old Spayed Female German Shepherd Australian Shepherd Needs Rescye By Friday June 12th 2026 Ruby is a 1 1/2 year old spayed female German Shepherd Australian Shepherd mix that was originally surrendered on 11/23/25 with another dog (A752946 Nova / female Siberian Husky) due to housing issues no longer allowing them to own pets. On 2/25/26 Ruby was adopted, but returned 3/4/26 due to their landlord not allowing a large breed dog. Following Ruby's return in March, increased kennel stress and barrier reactivity towards strangers while in kennel was routinely observed placing Ruby on the shelters urgent/needs-rescue list requiring rescue, adoption, or foster. On 4/23/26 Ruby was placed into foster care to resolve stress impacts occurring at the shelter. Unfortunately, on 5/3/26 Ruby was required to return to the shelter following an incident that occurred in the foster home with a temporary houseguest. On the evening of 5/1/26 and following morning, Ruby inflicted a level 2 bite to the houseguest causing bruising without skin breaks/did not draw blood. It was reported that the following morning on 5/2/26 another bite attempt was performed to the houseguest by Ruby which did not make contact. The foster caretakers did state that the houseguest that recently arrived was a female, Ruby did appear wary and unsure of the individual, and was barrier reactive towards her while crated. Ruby's foster caretakers also reported that Ruby displayed selective leash reactivity while on walks, primarily towards people of male gender but not all males she would come in proximity to. While in foster care Ruby's fosters also did state the following: 'Ruby is very loving with her humans, she always wants pets and belly rubs, and is always kissing us. She's very curious and has to follow you around to check everything, she has to smell everything. She's very agile with puppy energy when she plays. She is nervous in the car but she calms down once you start playing music. She knows basic commands such as 'sit', 'shake', and 'down'.' During Ruby's time at the shelter, both prior to her adoption return and subsequent foster return there have been no reports of negative behavior by staff or volunteers towards individuals while on the property towards people of male or female genders. Ruby has also been a regular participant in playgroups while at the shelter, interacting with other dogs by herself and alongside her former housemate (A752946 Nova / female Siberian Husky). Due to Ruby's in-kennel behavior while on property causing quality of life concerns and incident reported in her foster home, Ruby needs immediate rescue placement by end of day Friday June 12th 2026 If you or someone you know can help please contact the shelter at 562.570.3080 or [email protected] HI!
