My husband and I have a female Great Dane named 'Ursa.' We've had her since she was a puppy (5 months old), she's about 5.5 years old now. She is 144 lbs, black with a white belly, toes, and just the tip of her tail. She is kennel trained (it is a really big kennel) and unfortunately is mostly restricted to that kennel at the moment. The vet thinks Ursa has developed some form of 'doggy MRSA' that I think we picked up from a dog park. We've been giving her every treatment the vet has suggested, and it does look like she's getting better. That being said, due to our respective job situations we just cannot afford to give Ursa the continued medical care she needs nor are we able to give her the attention she wants/needs. Even before the infection we were having to leave her in her kennel entirely too much. She is miserable and it's breaking our hearts. My husband and I had a long talk about her today and we're interested in maybe finding a home for here where she will be much happier with a family that can give her the attention she wants and deserves. With that, I absolutely cannot let her go unless I can receive guarantees that she is going to a better family/environment and know that her medical needs will be met. I will insist on a legal contract if need be. I am not interested in asking $ for her, but this place suggests I ask for one to weed out those who cannot afford taking care of an animal. I just want her to be healthy, happy, and loved.
