Murphy is a 1.5-year-old Red Heeler who is looking for a new home. He isn't a 'difficult' dog, but he is a true working dog living in a suburban world. His current family loves him deeply and has invested heavily in his training, but they honestly recognize that his brilliant herding brain needs more engagement than they can provide. %BD%BD%BD%BD The Highlights Murphy is an incredibly well-mannered house companion who is trusted completely around children and already lives peacefully with cats. Household Manners: Fully house-trained, crate-trained, and a polite, slow eater with absolutely no resource guarding. Social & Gentle: Good with men, women, other dogs, and cats. He is not destructive and knows exactly what is and isn't his to chew. He visits a goat farm regularly and hasn't displayed any dangerous behavior around the livestock. The Perfect Partner: He is intensely loyal, smart, and loves fetch, running, and just being near his people. %BDs%A0%BD%BD%8F What an Experienced Handler Needs to Know To ensure Murphy succeeds, his future foster or adopter needs to understand the realities of a herding breed: High Mental & Physical Drive: A simple one-hour walk isn't going to cut it. Murphy needs real exercise and, more importantly, a job. He will thrive with someone into hiking, running, agility, fetch, or herding work. Hyper-Alert & Reactive: Murphy is constantly scanning his environment and is easily triggered by surroundings. He is not aggressive and has never bitten anyone, but he is always 'switched on.' He needs a confident handler who understands 'heeler brain' and can calmly guide him. Ongoing Confidence Building: His current family did the heavy lifting on his early training, but his forever family will need to keep building his confidence in a structured environment.
