I believe in being fully transparent about Pickles so that he can find the right home and be successful. Pickles has a history of resource guarding and has bitten both my other dog and my child. The incidents have occurred around high-value items such as food, treats, or chew bones. Outside of those situations, he is not an aggressive dog, but these are serious behaviors that need to be acknowledged and managed appropriately. For this reason, I believe Pickles would do best in an adult-only home with no children and ideally as the only pet. He would benefit from an experienced owner who understands resource guarding and is willing to provide structure, consistency, and continued training. This decision has been heartbreaking because when it is just Pickles and me, without other pets or children in the environment, he is truly an incredible dog. He is affectionate, intelligent, loyal, and loves being part of everyday life. I genuinely believe he can thrive in the right home where his triggers can be managed and set up for success. My goal is not simply to find him a home, but to find him the right home.
