About Phoenix

Phoenix is a 19 month old, 55 pound Standard Poodle. Phoenix was bred by a backyard breeder. That same breeder brought him to a vet clinic requesting euthanasia because he was experiencing vomiting and diarrhea. Since arriving in rescue, we have not observed either issue. To make sure Phoenix is healthy and ready for adoption, he has had a full blood panel, urinalysis, and a cortisol test to rule out Addison's disease. His results have been normal. After Phoenix entered rescue, several owners of his littermates reached out to share that their dogs have experienced chicken sensitivities so this may have been the issue. We are feeding him Purina Pro Plan Sensitive Skin & Stomach Lamb Formula and he has done very well on this diet. While we cannot guarantee that chicken is the cause of his previous digestive issues, his adopters should plan to continue feeding a chicken-free diet and monitor for any future sensitivities. Phoenix currently weighs 55 pounds and has a nice, moderate energy level. He enjoys playtime and exercise but is not an over-the-top, constantly-on-the-go dog. He would love a family that includes him in daily activities and gives him opportunities to stretch his legs and spend time with his people. When meeting new people, Phoenix can be a little shy for the first few minutes. He likes to take a moment to assess new situations and make sure everything is safe. Once he settles in, his affectionate personality quickly emerges. He loves being petted, enjoys attention from his people, and is happiest when he can be part of whatever his family is doing. Phoenix gets along well with other dogs and has done well around cats. He is house trained and has adjusted nicely to life in foster care. Because he enjoys having room to run and play safely, Phoenix requires a physically fenced yard. Phoenix offers everything people love about Standard Poodles: intelligence, loyalty, companionship, and a deep desire to be close to his family. He is a sweet young dog who is ready to leave his past behind and begin the life he has always deserved.
