JAX is a 5-year-old, 14.8 Shih Tzu who was surrendered to us because his owner didn't have time for him. He came in with badly matted fur and really bad skin. Unfortunately he had to be shaved but his skin is responding well to treatment and his fur will grow back. JAX is a sweet, easygoing little guy who has settled into foster care beautifully. He's a lovely little dog with a calm personality who will make someone an excellent companion. He does have separation anxiety and does not like spending time away from his people. We are looking for a home where someone can be home with him often. He loves couch time and attention. JAX was in a home with another small dog and he does well with the dogs in his foster home. He would be happiest in a home with one or two other small dogs. We do not know how he would be with kids but he is a sweet boy and older kids should be fine. He has a high prey drive when it comes to birds and small animals. He has chased quail in his foster home and gets very excited watching birds and even goats on television. A home without cats, chickens or other small prey animals is best. JAX absolutely loves being outside with his person. We are looking for a home with a fenced yard for exploring with some shady spots for naps. He walks wonderfully on leash and does okay off leash, though his recall is still a work in progress and he can develop a little selective hearing. He does not like being outside alone, especially if he's in an unfamiliar area. JAX is doing well with potty training in his foster home but does need somebody to keep working with him. If you have a dog door, please don't expect that he's just going to go outside and go potty. He's going to need you to take him out and walk with him and give him lots of praise. You should also expect accidents as he settles into the home. JAX is hesitant about stairs and is continuing to build confidence with them. He does not do well being kenneled so he will need a home that understands he should not be in one. At night, he enjoys relaxing and being close to his people and snuggles to sleep in the bed with his foster family. JAX is neutered, up to date on shots, heartworm negative, has had a ProHeart 12 heartworm prevention shot, and is microchipped with a lifetime registration. *To meet or adopt one of our dogs, you must first submit an adoption application for review.
