Batman is a very handsome fellow in need of a new home. His owner writes, 'My dog is blind and requires a level of care and supervision that I am unfortunately not able to provide. He currently stays outside because I do not have the space or ability to safely accommodate him indoors. I'm concerned that this environment is no longer suitable for him, especially given his vision impairment. I want him to have a safe, comfortable home where he can be properly cared for and live a better quality of life.' His owner has tried reaching out to family, friends, and several other rescues, but has not yet had any luck. Name: Batman Age: DOB 6/8/2022 Breed: Bulldog (80 pounds) Sex: Male (neutered per owner) Location: Cleveland County NC Vet Info: Batman is neutered per his owner. He is confirmed up to date on his rabies vaccine and is next due in February, 2029. He has not had a recent heartworm test. Batman is completely blind, but the cause is unknown. His owner writes, 'According to the veterinarian, the exact cause of his blindness is unknown. He does not have any usable vision and relies on his other senses to navigate. Because of this, he benefits from a stable and consistent environment, as unfamiliar spaces can be difficult for him to adjust to.... he is not showing signs of pain or active medical illness. Aside from his vision loss, he has been medically stable and does not currently require ongoing treatment.' Dog Info: Batman's owner tells us he is housebroken and leash trained. He knows the commands, Sit, Stop, and Come! He's good with both men and women, but a home with children is not recommended. Batman's owner is unsure how he'd be around other dogs and tells us, 'I don't know how Batman will respond being around other animals. He's never been around any other dogs, cats, or people. He's only been around me and my husband and our daughter. He barks at my cats but has never tried to hurt any of them.' (Their daughter is an adult). Batman can be possessive of food and may growl if someone goes near his food, but he has never bitten. Batman's owner also wants us to know what a good and special boy he is! 'He is able to eat, move around, and function well with guidance. He has a calm and reserved temperament, is very affectionate, and responds well to praise and gentle interaction.... 'Behaviorally, he is very calm, reserved, and affectionate. He is not reactive or aggressive, and he adjusts well once he becomes familiar with his environment. Because of his blindness, he does best in a safe, consistent home where furniture and routines aren't frequently changed so he can navigate comfortably.... 'Overall, he is a gentle dog with a sweet temperament who seems to rely more on sound, scent, and familiarity than sight, and he thrives in a calm, stable environment.' Batman is hoping for his second chance! **Owner Surrender Disclaimer: These are blind and visually impaired dogs who are living in homes, but their owners can no longer keep them.
