Cat in need of better fitting home This is a heartbreaking post I never imagined I would make I adopted a sweet 6 year old ragdoll cat named Maty 3.5 years ago. At the time I was living alone and she was doing so well. She was cuddly, happy, energetic and my best friend. Once, when looking for a cat sitter, I made a post, and her previous sitter reached out to me to ask how she was doing. She then told me that she was really unhappy in her previous owner's home. According to her, she wasn't using her box, was stressed and under-eating. I couldn't believe it because for two years I had zero issues. I ended up falling in love and getting married and things suddenly changed with her. We've tried everything we could think of, and we've ruled out all health issues. She seemed to have separation anxiety and had previously interacted well with other cats so we got her a companion- this helped for a bit but now it seems like it's made things worse. We tried Prozac and Gaubepentin, which helped the bathroom habits but she wasn't herself on the medication. When just one of us is home alone with her she's so cuddly and happy, but when it's the two of us she hides from us and crawls under the bed. The bathroom accidents have increased and I can no longer ignore the fact that she is not happy, no matter how badly I want to keep her with me. We feel that she would be herself and happier if she lived in a calm environment with no pets and ideally a mostly single-person home where she isn't stressed about her place in the dynamic. My mom was going to take her, but unfortunately, my mom passed away unexpectedly just before we were going to make the transition. We're relocating to NYC in the fall and thought it would be best to keep her with someone in the family who fit that bill, as we don't think she is resilient enough to have a big move at this point in her life. Of course, having her with my mom is no longer an option and so we are reaching out to see if anyone is interested and able to provide a better environment for her. We are hoping whoever takes her will stay in contact with us if it's not working so we can take her back and decide where to go from there.
