Adopters must have the ability to carry up and down flights of steps if needed. It's not likely Raina can be taken on extended walks. She has had a limited amount of time on a leash for going to appointments and initially when she was learning to walk again. BIOGRAPHY Meet Raina! Raina came into rescue from an Ohio breeder. She sustained a spinal injury during giving birth in March 2026. With the inability to use her rear legs the breeder surrendered her to Sophia's Grace Foundation. She was spayed immediately after coming into foster care. Due to her spinal injury, we couldn't risk her being pregnant. Shortly after being spayed, Raina went to a special Integrated veterinarian and began therapy to restore her mobility. Foster mom says her middle name should be 'miracle'. After just a few weeks of electro-acupuncture, and laser therapy she stood steady on all four legs. Now it's early June and She's been walking for quite some time without assistance. Even if her rear legs seem to wobble a little bit, she gets around great on even surfaces. She even tries to run with the resident dogs in the yard. Having been raised in a breeder environment, she was shy, quiet without much human socializing upon arrival in her foster home. Best prescription for that was the other confident, playful dogs in the home. It greatly helped her break out of her shell. We aren't sure she ever had toys, much human touch and attention in her short life. Now she likes carrying her stuffed toys around when she's excited. She also learned she has a voice! Raina may be known to bark at strange noises outside or if the resident dogs find something to bark about. Raina is an early riser in the mornings and will announce to everyone it's time to wake up! Crate training was easy, and she likes getting a treat when foster mom puts her in the crate before work or at night. Did we mention she is a perfect backseat passenger in a vehicle? Raina has a couple of requests for her new home. First are patience and compassion. Giving time to decompress in a quiet home environment. Her current foster home is probably the first real inside housing situation she experienced. Likely Raina lived in a kennel or cage while the breeder had her. At least one well-adjusted and social small breed dog with a gentle play style, no dominance or resource guarding issues. Her new human should be familiar or experienced with IVDD in dogs. Access to a nearby veterinarian facility who offers acupuncture and laser therapy treatments, should it ever be needed in the future. Raina has made incredible strides in her recovery. There is always the chance that occasional treatments to maintain her stability would be encouraged by a primary veterinarian. She is on no medication, only an herbal supplement provided by her Integrated Veterinarian. Raina's foster mom would be happy to talk with interested applicants about her.
