Riley has some health issues but the only ones we really have to worry about are age-related. The shelter has been treating her for heartworms and she's getting her next injection 6/3. She's wobbly and sometimes can't go up or down stairs easily. She sometimes piddles because she just can't hold it anymore, but she's not truly incontinent. She's an absolute cuddle bug but was used for hunting (and possibly for fighting when she was young, but she may have been just a breeder for the fights), so she'll chase smaller animals. I've never seen our cat do vertical parkour before, and watching a Maine Coon mix fluff up even bigger was pretty crazy! She acted like she really wanted to play with my whippet mix - she was surrendered to the shelter with her two 5 year-old whippet mix pups, and every time she saw Callie, she would whine and wag like crazy. The first two times we let her try to get a little closer, she slipped on our tiles and Callie freaked out and snapped at her. We put a baby gate up in my doorway so they could safely get to know each other, and things seemed to be going well. Callie was losing her fear, and one day nosed the door into Riley's room open looking for me (I must not have latched it properly). Riley doesn't always see or hear things right away, but when she turned and saw Callie, she attacked. My son was slightly injured trying to get Riley's jaws unlocked. Now we are supposed to go to the Midwest to visit family and for summer camp. There's no way we can take Riley. We still believe we can get Callie and Riley to tolerate each other, at least, but there's no time now.
