SCARLETT aka MOCHA HAS BEEN MADE AVAILABLE TO ADOPT - BUT IS EXTREMELY URGENT AND PAST HER DEADLINE - so we are also looking for an ADOPTER, OR FOSTER AND RESCUE TO SAVE HER IN TIME! BEYOND URGENT, CHOW GIRL TO BE EUTHANIZED! 72 hr warning issued 5/7! BALDWIN PARK, CA (SO CAL) ID #A5767118 LOS ANGELES COUNTY ANIMAL SERVICES- 'SCARLETT' (aka Mocha)- 4 YR FEMALE CHOW -OKAY IN PLAYGROUP W/ OTHER DOGS- pls contact Robin with questions or interest, as shared posts and comments may not been seen. We are in urgent need of finding a responsible and caring home, or foster and rescue, for this adorable but very neglected, female chow who was found as a stray and brought to the shelter on 4/4. VIDEOS PASTED INTO COMMENTS SECTION OF THIS POST! The shelter sent out a 72 hour warning of pending euthanasia as soon as she came off her stray hold and therefore can now be euthanized without further warning. We are calling this beauty Scarlett, although the shelter has called her Mocha and estimates she is only 4 years young and weighs 52 lbs. She sadly came in with a very unkept coat, a possible hematoma on her ear, and wheezing when panting. She was placed on doxy for 10 days, and is finally feeling better. Since then, she has settled down and recently went to a playgroup where she interacted with other dogs, but mostly ignored them as seen in new video we have, and was more recently made available to adopt. Although the shelter recommended she be an only dog because she showed no interest in these dogs, she may just not be used to other dogs and need more time to warm up. More specifically, shelter notes, state, 'She was allowed into the yard, where she ignored the dogs that came forward to greet her. Mocha chose to explore the environment instead, exhibiting a neutral posture while she avoided the dogs in her proximity. Her posture became tense when they got too close and she growled at them to signal for space. Near the end of the session, Mocha allowed the handler to briefly pet her gently on the head before she returned to roam the yard. For the remainder of the session, Mocha kept to herself, tolerating the other dogs from a distance. Once the session concluded, she was separated from the group to begin her handling assessment. Due to her lack of interest and defensive response, Mocha could benefit from a home without other dogs'. A complete copy of both medical and behavior notes may be requested. While the shelter has made her available to adopt, we are worrying her time may run out and are therefore also looking for a suitable foster so a rescue could also help her since most rescues need a place for a dog to go, to rescue a dog. Scarlett aka Mocha has been vaccinated and would be spayed for a home if this is not already done. Therefore, if you may be interested in fostering, fostering to adopt, or helping Scarlett in some other way (ie., pledging for her rescue), please contact [email protected] or Southern California Chow Chow Rescue Network who is trying to find placement asap, and we can try to pair fosters or interested parties with a willing rescue group. Potential adopters and Rescue groups may contact the shelter directly at [email protected] and by calling: 626-962-3577 or 626-430-2378 and providing her ID.
