About Duke

Duke is the kind of dog that thrives on structure and routine, and for the right person that is exactly what makes him exceptional. This young American Bulldog mix is about 65 lbs, strong, athletic, highly trainable, and happiest when he has clear expectations and consistency. | Duke is not chaotic or out of control. He is actually a dog that deeply wants direction. Give him a system and he locks into it quickly and confidently. He does especially well on a tie-out zip line setup where he has room to move while still understanding his boundaries. | When Duke first arrived, he destroyed a standard wire crate because he was overwhelmed and lacked structure. Once he was given a sturdy metal crate and a consistent routine, everything changed. Now his crate is his favorite place. He even has a nightly routine where he lets you know he is ready for bed, gets unclipped from his tie-out, runs straight into his crate onto his fresh blanket, settles down happily, and waits for his cookie. | Duke now walks calmly on leash, transitions between activities without chaos, and is extremely human-focused, eager to please, and responsive to direction. With people he is affectionate, engaged, and submissive. | He can occasionally posture with other male dogs but coexists well in a structured environment and has had no real issues with any dogs here beyond occasional grandstanding that is easily corrected with a verbal command. | Good fit: someone who enjoys routine, structure, and working with a dog who genuinely wants to learn and follow a system.
